The conference season commences with Octavo’s Mathematics conference ‘Mastering the Primary National Curriculum for Mathematics’ on Friday 6th November. The conference will address a number of key principles of a mastery approach to teaching mathematics, including deep understanding and variation theory. Octavo welcome Debbie Morgan, Primary Director of NCETM (National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics) and Nigel Bufton (former HMI for mathematics) as keynote speakers.
Following on Monday 11th November is this year’s SEN and Behaviour conference – Improving outcomes for pupils with autism. This one day conference organised by Octavo and Croydon Council for SENCOs, teachers and support staff in all early years, primary and secondary schools who work with pupils with autism promises to have something of value for everyone. Delegates will hear from key note speaker Dr Glenys Jones, honorary lecturer and researcher in the Autism Centre for Education and Research (ACER) at the University of Birmingham. Additional contributions to the day from Judith Azzopardi, head of Chaffinch Brook, Gina Davis on Attention Autism, The Bridge Teaching school on peer awareness, the Lego Club and more. Wrapping up conference season on Friday 27th November will be the SMSC and British Values Conference which asks the question: ‘What does this mean for schools?’ This conference will explore in depth the nature of this issue and in hearing from various experts, delegates will consider how it can enrich their pupils’ personal development from the perspective of Ofsted.
