As the current President of the Croydon Headteachers’ Association I would like to welcome you to your important role in our vibrant borough, and give you some information about the CHTA.
The CHTA has been in existence for several decades and was founded to provide networking, support and training to the leaders of educational providers in Croydon – whatever their organisational status. Our membership draws from colleagues in nurseries, children’s centres, special schools, primary schools, secondary schools, colleges and all forms of alternative provision across the borough.
CHTA has an executive committee nominated from its membership who meet regularly to discuss and plan activity to meet the needs of its membership, including the planning of an Annual Conference in March and, for the last two years, has organised a very successful recruitment fair.
Every school in Croydon is automatically a member of the CHTA. CHTA requests from schools every year a subscription which helps the CHTA to operate and carry out its function of supporting Heads across Croydon.
In recent years we have become a founding shareholder of The Octavo Partnership, Croydon’s provider of educational services set up to serve the needs of local schools. CHTA holds a 40% share in the Octavo Partnership and has appointed 40% of the Directors to the Octavo Board – Jolyon Roberts, Nick Dry, Trish Farrelly and Gordon Smith (also Chair of the Octavo Partnership Board).
At the point when Octavo was established and CHTA was incorporated, schools and colleges were asked to make a contribution equivalent to a given amount per student which covered the costs of our incorporation and entitled schools and colleges to a reduction in charges from many services from Octavo. If your school has not yet paid this ‘one off’ contribution and wishes to benefit from such reductions in the future please contact the Riddlesdown Finance Office in order to arrange payment.
We have already sent out information about the CHTA recruitment fair on 4th February, and we hope you can join us there. Our main event is a conference for school leaders across Croydon which this year will be held in Eastbourne on 23rd and 24th March. Secondary colleagues have an additional conference in Poole in June.
The CHTA Executive Committee is made up of colleagues from all sectors in Croydon . The post of president rotates annually between Primary, Special and Secondary schools.
We wish you every success in your new role, and look forward to meeting you at one of our events.
