Gilbert Scott Primary is a one form entry mainstream school on the same site as Woodlands Children’s Centre and Red Gates Special School. These educational establishments are set in more than 5 hectares of beautiful land. As well as being a mainstream school, Gilbert Scott Primary is also able to offer specialist support for pupils with special educational needs. This is achieved primarily through two ‘enhanced learning provisions,’ one for pupils in early years or Key Stage 1 (6 places) and one for pupils in Key Stage 2 (8 places). These children have specialist teaching and support in the mornings in the ELPs and then join their mainstream classes, with support, in the afternoons.
Such pupils are allocated a place at Gilbert Scott Primary School through the Local Authority panel and have to have a statement of educational needs or an Education, Health and Care Plan. As well as its own nursery class at Gilbert Scott, there is also the LA’s nursery for children with severe, long term and complex special needs. This is called Willow Tree Nursery and has 12 part time places. Again these children are placed through a panel.
The school holds the Quality Mark for Inclusion, along with the Healthy Schools QM at silver level.
